Buffy attacks the demon, but Willow advises her that killing won’t make the loan go away and the demon tells her that he only collects because he became trapped in this world with the seed was destroyed and it’s expensive to live here without a job. She tells Willow not to say anything about the seed and they find an A.T.M. After withdrawing her money, she gives it to the demon and he tells her that it won’t cover the first payment. Spike asks here where all of the money she stole was from and Buffy tells him that she gave it all back with Riley negotiated an amnesty between the slayers and Interpol. Spike then takes the demon aside and asks him to cut her a break, but he tells Spike the next time he won’t be so nice about it. Willow starts back on Buffy with how the destruction of the seed affected everyone and she is going to have to deal with the fallout and walks away leaving Buffy and Spike alone in the alley.

Spike tells Buffy that Willow is right and she can’t sit back because something is coming for her. A figure is seen standing on top of a building in the alley way and jumps to another building. The hooded figure jumps through Buffy’s window and is rummaging around through her stuff. Tumble is getting a snack from the kitchen and hears what he thinks is Buffy in her room. The creature with some sort of energy ring around his hand about and Tumble reaches for the door knob when he opens the door to see if she wants some “midnight ramen,” the room is empty and the window is open.

Elsewhere, Detectives Dowling and Cheung are in the morgue with the bodies they found earlier. He tells Cheung that the picture he’s holding doesn’t belong to her because she has already checked.

He tells her that he doesn’t go back far enough because this girl disappeared in 1941. Cheung tells him that there is no way that could be her and he tells her that they look exactly the same and the prints are a match. He also says that he found similar files on two of the six bodies that were brought in, one from 1954 and 1963. Cheung says she wants to know why they haven’t aged and Dowling tells her that the bodies belonged to vampires…

We see a fairly decent dressed man running down the alley from a vampire and Buffy is watching from one of the buildings above. She jumps down into the alley and shoves the vampire out of the way. The guy tells her that he can help her and she responds by saying he could can help by getting out of here. She stakes the vampire and is caught by the police at gunpoint and arrested.

Cut to a holding cell where she is being interrogated by Dowling and Cheung.

Dowling tells her that he knows she’s a Slayer and shows her pictures of the bodies they found and ask her if they look familiar. She asks him if they should. Cheung tells Buffy that Dowling things that the bodies belonged to vampires she thinks that Buffy killed them. She tells them that they can’t be vampires because they turn to dust when you kill them. She asks if now is the time she needs to ask for a lawyer. The detectives are outside the holding cell and Dowling tells Cheung that he doesn’t think that Buffy has anything to do with the murders. Cheung tells him that Buffy has every reason to lie and she’s not letting her go until they know more. Dowling goes back to the holding cell to find Buffy is gone. Cut outside, Buffy is on top of the police building with cops outside yelling to find her.

Cut to Buffy coming through the window of Dawn and Xander’s apartment. They are watching the news and see her picture. Xander congratulates her on being a fugitive and Buffy turns off the television. She asks them if she can crash at their place, but Xander tells her that they can’t let her stay. Buffy comments that the couch is already made up and Xander says that’s for him. Buffy realizes that Dawn and Xander and in the midst of a fight and leaves through the window.

She is on a building in the city and Spike comes up behind her. He asks her what she did to get locked up and Buffy blames the vampire she dusted. She gets up to leave and Spike tells her to stay out of jail. She is running along a building when she sees a vampire attacking a civilian. The vampire has the guy pinned on the ground and Buffy jumps on him and dusts him from the back. She realizes it’s the same guy she saw in the alley earlier. He tells her again that he can help her as she is attacked by another vampire and tells her that he is a Slayer, like her. She tells him that when he remembers to bring a stake, they’ll talk. Buffy chases the vampire into an alley and finds several more vampires in the shadows. The vampire jumps on her and she drops her stake. Right before he is ready to bite her, there is a green energy around his head and his eyes go wide with surprise. The bumpiness of his face and his fangs start to fade away until he has human features again. The mystery man has the vampire by the head and his eyes are glowing white. He tells Buffy that he told her that he could help and that he’s not a vampire anymore and tells them none of them are. She is surprised to find that they are standing in an alley full of bodies that used to be vampires. She asks if he is trying to put her out of a job…because she might be okay with that.

To be continued…

What Did I Think?

I really like this issue. I’m intrigued about our mystery gentleman vampire slayer and excited to see where this will end up going. I am still convinced that Buffy and Xander slept together even though there is no proof in this issue; however, it is cute to see Xander and Dawn playing house though. I also want to find out who they mystery demon is that’s running around sneaking in Buffy’s room! WTF is up with that. Poor Buffy is always getting blamed for stuff and always in trouble with the cops. I wish that they would just stop arresting or trying to arrest her. Jeez! She’s just trying to do what she thinks is right, right?

Notable Quotes

Willow: Killing him won’t make the loan go away.
Buffy: No, but it will make him go away.

Willow: This is what I’m talking about, Buffy. You don’t realize how the destruction of the seed affected everyone. You only think about how it affected you. All the Slayers, the vampires, even the demons with magical mojo. You all got to keep you power because it was inside of you. But everyone else got cut off from what made them tick. For me, it was magic. For that demon, his home.
Buffy: We’ve been through this. I had no choice.
Willow: Maybe…but that doesn’t mean you can sit back like everything’s over. You’re going to have to deal with the fallout eventually.

“My bed. That’s where I should be. So I can wake up tomorrow morning to make money to give to a demon. But I’m here. Watching my back like Spike said. Trying to figure out how to make Willow understand why I did what I did. And of course…slaying. Who am I kidding? At least I’m good at this.” Buffy
